Mega Bass® Mega Mansion
As they made the turn
onto Mulholland, the night sky opened up on the valley. "I'll never get tired of this view, " Becky sighed. The dust kicked up on the road as the roadster sped on up the hill.
In the distance,
the flickering light in front of number 1423 pulled them in, as their car growled to a stop. "This is it," said Becky. Several cars graced the street across from the place. "Looks like the party's already begun." She started to open the car door, but Ian tugged at her arm. "Wait," he murmured, drawing her close for a kiss. "Come on, let's go" she pulled away. Shrugging his shoulders, he jumped out of the car and first walked then trotted to catch up to Becky, who was halfway to the door.
Hi, Beck,
said Stacy hugging her old college roommate. She, a struggling young actress, got the enviable job of mansion-sitting for her mother's best friend, Mrs. Roland. Behind Stacy appeared two others, Buzz and Kathie arm-in-arm. "So, introduce us," insisted Buzz, as he rounded them all into the house. He was a bit too boisterous for Becky but she played along.
Inside,
they were joined by Terry, Stacy's S.O. and the rest. Though he was an up-and-coming film director, Stacy was not a big fan; but he was cute, and he was going for some snacks. Becky was busy looking around at the grandeur of the place, when Buzz interrupted. "Hey, what you got there," he said pointing to the Sony CD boombox she was carrying. Pursing her lips, Becky put it down, pressed play, and pulled Ian away.
The Modern Rock Live CD
sampler started playing. The selections were alternative and the deep Sony Mega Bass® sound thumped its approval. Designed to boost the deep sound you can feel, the Mega Bass® cranked hot tight sound. The pulsating groove wove its way around the room, curling and twisting, drawing them closer.
Stacy was the first
to dance, Terence following her lead. Pretty soon, the room was in motion as the tracks clicked off. It was heady stuff and they couldn't help but smile and laugh. And the moshing factor was high.
By the way, Stacy,
Becky called out to Stacy during a particularly frenzied moment, "when is your mother's friend coming back?" "Oh, not until tomorrow," she explained, her long dark hair tracing the rhythm of the music in the air. "Cool, " said Ian, as Becky turned to him and continued to dance.
Nobody except Ian
noticed when a very early Mrs. Roland pulled up in her car. He ran over to the window. "It's her, its...", Ian started, but everyone had taken the cue and was way ahead of him. Someone had already turned off the boombox. Becky ran over, grabbed it and bolted with Ian to the back door. They ran around with the other escapees to the street into their cars and sped off. In a stroke of serendipity, they accidently cut off Buzz.
The CD's gone,
Becky exclaimed in dismay, looking over the boombox, then dejectedly placing it in the back. Ian consoled her, "hey, we can get another if we buy that Discman® CD player you wanted, " he offered. Becky resigning herself to the situation, curled into her seat. Her sleepy eyes traced the twinkling lights of downtown LA as they rose and fell in the passenger side mirror.
Ian looked over at her
then straight ahead. He thought about the unexpected phonecall today from Joan; he didn't tell Becky. Meanwhile, in the backseat, the Sony boombox, though perturbed by the mention of the Discman® CD player, lay reveling in the events of the day.
